More than 600 children, accompanied by their parents, took part in a morning of MOVE Week games in Avola (in province of Syracuse, Sicily), Italy, on Wednesday 25 May. The event was a collaboration between Italian MOVE Week National Coordinator UISP and the School De Amicis of Avola to promote healthy food and lifestyle among the local school children.

The goal was to develop their fundamental skills in different sports and help them understand the benefits of healthy living. Running, basketball, volleyball and skills games got the young participants moving, while their parents took care of the catering: which consisted strictly of fruits and low-calorie food.

Nutrition and sports to close the circle on healthy eating and living, which are habits everyone should adopt from when they are small.

The Mayor, Luca Cannata, Sport Assessor Toni Nastasi, and the event ambassador Alessandro Agosta, a 204cm Syracusan basketball player, drew a lot of attention and curiosity from the children and, also their parents, who indulged in a few selfies.

Sports associations which use the school’s gym for their workouts, received a donation from Avis (Association of Italian blood donors) of a defibrillator which was presented to the head teacher Stefania Stancanelli. This important life-saving tool now is available for everyone at the school.
