Italy ranks first with over 100 registered MOVE Week events!
16/05/2017 by Triin IlvesWith two weeks to go until MOVE Week 2017, Italy is at the top of the MOVE Week registration page with 121 different events. Running, stair-climbing, dancing, horse riding, and basketball tournaments are only a few of the listed activities that will take place between 29 May – 4 June.
This year, MOVE Week will mobilise the whole country and more than fifty cities will join the movement. Sara Ceci from UISP (. Various events will promote bicycle use, walking, choosing the stairs instead of the elevators, and in-office gyms.
Outside the office buildings, everyone is invited to participate in big sport events, i.e. in public marathons and night walks. UISP Territorial Committees will organise many events in city main squares that will involve both the citizens as well as the athletes, Ceci added.
MOVE Week in Italy will also turn its attention to minority groups. In Bari, some events are planned especially for people with mental disabilities. In Altamura, children with postural errors will train together with the horses.
Active MOVE Agents in Czech Republic and Slovakia
Czech Republic and Slovakia are the other two countries where more than 40 events have been registered in each country. In Czech Republic, the centre of activation will be in Prague, whereas the title for the most active city in Slovakia looks like it will go to Košice.

Nordic Walking:
Minikurz Nordic Walking Bratislava IV – Organised by the Slovak Nordic Walking Association (Slovenská Asociácia Nordic Walking), they take regular walking trips to a next level. Using special walking sticks for that extra kick, the Nordic Walking is a good way to stay active throughout the year. Start your MOVE Weekend early and join the group in Bratislava at 9AM on 3 June.
Letem světem – “Around the World” activities
Letem světem – Organised by Czech Sokol Association, “Around the World” activities involve various easy and fun physical exercises. They share the “sport for all” vision, being easy enough for everyone to participate. Citizens can go head-to-head in familiar competitions: shuttle run, obstacle course, goal throw, long jump from place etc. On Monday, 29 May, Prague will become the centre of these world-famous games.
Seniors on the MOVE
Senioři v pohybu – Age is only a number! Senior Czechs are invited for a good game of bowling, petanque, or gorodki. Gather a team and take a daytrip to Brno on Tuesday, 30 May.
Celebrating physical activity
On Friday (2 June), Slovakia will host its biggest festival of sport and health – ŠPORTlínia festival športu a zdravia. The event will take place in Banská Bystrica that is located about halfway between Slovakia’s two largest cities – Bratislava and Košice. Exhibitions, competitions, conference, seminars, workshops, trade fair, etc – this festival will be the most important sport event in the region.
