KOA President kicks off Cyprus’ MOVE Week preparations

27/08/2014

Cyprus Sports Organisation (KOA), the National Coordinator for MOVE Week 2014 in Cyprus, officially kicked off its MOVE Week preparations on 26 August in the presence of a host of cross-sector supporters.

KOA’s first ever female president, Dr. Clea Hadjistefanou-Papaellina, opened the meeting, emphasising the importance of being part of a European Campaign and how well it fits with the objectives of her organisation.

On top of that, she said that the event would help Cyprus climb the ladder at the European level, making it one of the major players in the field of sport and physical activity.

To do this requires input from many sectors, she mentioned:
“An active lifestyle is not the sole responsibility of the sport and physical activity sector, but it is a shared responsibility and requires a collective effort.”

Her words summarised the exact meaning of MOVE Week and set the basis for a great start in Cyprus leading up to the first day of MOVE Week 2014 on 29 September.

Other important stakeholders in Cypriot sport and physical activity, such as sport federations and associations, private gyms, national programs and services, municipalities, the Ministry of Education, private schools and universities, were also present at the kick-off meeting.

With such strong signs of support, we will keenly follow Cyprus’ progress over the next few weeks. Good luck!
