Sabína Steinunn Halldórsdóttir National coordinator MOVE Week Iceland

Name: Sabína Steinunn Halldórsdóttir

Country: Iceland

About me: Ever since I remember, my life has been full of nature, play and all kinds of physical activities. In my upbringing the sport hall was the biggest venue for me and my friends to hang out and be active. Through childhood I participated in all kinds of sports and activities and became a trainer for children early in my life. I have a master degree in sport and physical activity and my main topics were children’s’ fundamental skill and activities in the nature. I was a PE teacher in schools for a few years, trained children in many different sports and have been in a part time teacher in universities for several years. I work as a project manager for the Youth Association of Iceland (UMFÍ) and our goal is to motivate people to engage in healthy lifestyles to help them physically, emotionally and socially.

My daily exercise: There is not a single day that I don’t go out in the nature for a walk, hike, swim or jog – I get my energy from the nature.

My vision: To motivate families to be more physically active together – to increase family values and make physical activity a number one hobby for each of them. Let children play – don't be in their way. Play with them.

My MOVE Week story: I have been part of MOVE Week since it started as a National Coordinator in Iceland. I'm highly motivated and it’s a great pleasure to be a part of a group of coordinators who have the same goals as each other. I have long-term goals for Iceland and we see the campaign as a marathon – last year we increased the amount of people who participated since 2012 and we will do better this year.
