Robert Portelli National coordinator MOVE Week Malta

Name: Robert Portelli

Country: Malta

About me: I consider myself lucky that my parents valued sport and physical activity and played waterpolo, handball and rugby from my early years. I graduated as a PE teacher and taught in various schools at different levels. I coach rugby at Falcons RFC and for 4 years I coached the Rugby National Youth Teams. Currently I work as Head of Sport Programmes at Kunsill Malti għall-iSport, Malta’s Authority for Sport.

My daily exercise: I still train and play rugby despite my ‘old’ age. Rugby makes me feel better on and off the pitch, especially at the third half. I cycle on the other days.

My vision: I believe that we should make every effort to make physical activity an attractive option for people so they can have a healthy lifestyle. We can do this by improving their access to sport and physical activity in every possible way.

My MOVE Week story: I was contacted last year (June 2013) and got hooked straightaway. The first MOVE Week in Malta was an instant success and we plan to have a bigger week this year.
